We are a group of students, neighbors, creatives, workers, parents, and friends. Some of us have been organizing in Chapel Hill for decades, while others have just recently joined the fight. We come together through our belief in self-determination, collective action, and mutual aid.
We formed in August 2018 to support anti-racist activists facing charges related to protests against white supremacy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. We created the Anti-Racist Activist Fund which provides support for current and future defendants in the struggle against white supremacy in Chapel Hill and surrounding areas. Any leftover funds will be used to support ongoing activism against racism and other forms of oppression.
Though we formed in response to the toppling of Silent Sam, we know that the Confederate monument's fall is neither the beginning nor the end of the work we need to do. We hope to build an infrastructure not just for supporting ongoing organizing against white supremacy at UNC, but for organizing against all forms of oppression in our community and around the world.
